Let’s see some instrument pics! Anything, in use, on the wall, in a case, whatever you’d like.
Here is a sneak peak of my custom Stone banjo in the works. This one is going to be special. Curly maple neck with black walnut center. He’s put a bit of oil on it to show off the grain. Look at those beautiful stripes.

I can’t remember if you’ve seen this one or not. 24″ Scale(A) with a 1 3/8″ nut, 11″ rim and a Jamaican Goatskin head(doesn’t it look cool?).

Two of my 3 dulcimer hanging on the wall hooks I JUST got. They will make it easier to grab and play. On the right is my main squeeze, a cherry McSpadden I have restrung to be baritone with AEA tuning. Left is new Bill Arnold Student elliptical 25vsl I got a few weeks ago at WeedPatch Music Store in Nashville INDIANA. Hard to see in picture, but it has great grain and top left sound hole is actual knot. I will keep this one DAD. It was Very hard to walk away from some of his and others beautiful instruments in the store, but I was after something like this for now.

Cool! I need to stay AWAY from that place this June when I go up to Warsaw/Etna Green, IN. I’ll probably be too close to Folkcraft as well, haha!

Yeah, I’m terrified of cutting sound holes in it!
Instead of hearts I’m thinking just round holes with a drill bit.

I spent several hours today with my banjo. Here’s what I did.
Removed the armrest, strings, and goat skin head. With the weather warming up I need a synthetic head on there. Then I cleaned it from head to toe, oiled the board. AND I moved the neck! Made it have really nice and LOW action. Then I put a Remo Elite Fiberskyn on it, my same awesome Johnny bridge, and put my old Nechville armrest on it. I also put on some Mapes Strings (made in TN). I need a replacement set of strings as it seems my go to set does have some QC issues from time to time and I can’t always get them. So far I really like them.
Beautiful day here for pickin’.

I think you’ll really like the Mapes Strings, I sure do. You can easily order the gauges from them to match your Ernie Ball’s too.
Cody put some Mapes on his electric guitar and likes them.
Oh and I had to ditch the goatskin yesterday too. Sitting in the shade outside while I wait for the next basketball game playing right now, haha!

Those mapes – every packet had an extra string except the 3rd. Great value there! Didn’t know I could do that, cool.
Yes, though I really liked the goatskin, that puppy would get so loose. Gotta go with the fake stuff so I can get really consistent.

Finally feeling good enough and weather is nice enough to so what I love. So hours on the back porch getting the banjo fixed up then playing. Then later in the evening I got out on the pickin’ porch playing dulcimer. Haha. Spending a good 2 hours playing each day (trying to). Want to work up to 2 hours consecutive. I’d actually love to spend more time playing each day but you know – family and critters – hahaha.
FYI – Pro’s normally spend a good 4-5 hours a day practicing. Super pro’s like Chris Thile (mandolin) will spend 7+ hours per day practicing.
Just curious – why is everyone working at the beach?? And that’s great all of your songs plus you are trying a new one. WOOO WHOO. Great stuff. I do have a couple of different Cripple Creeks on dulcimer too.

The neighbor owns a marina ..she is always doing something…and…we have our spit of land…last two years high water levels made a mess… but we have ours under semi control… and when it is beautiful out…i’m going to enjoy it..🎵..
I wrote out the tab from one of your videos..so I can easily see it…and starting the process of memorizing….Cripple Creek…
Thank you for all your hard work!🍋🙂

Here’s 1 of 2 great instruments coming my way!! That hybrid lap-jo that I talked about in my TIPS before buying a dulcimer video just got finished and got here yesterday!! So you will see a LOT coming with it. AND – I just got word that my CUSTOM STONE is finished. So here’s the first bit of eye candy for you. More next week.

Oh and for all my banjo folks – that’s where the bridge is supposed to be. I got a shorter scale (my preferred VSL 25”). If I’d have went with the standard 28” it would be more toward the tailpiece.

Sure you can, buy one and you’ll stop thinking about them so much 😇
Yeah, I know it’s easy to spend other people’s money, lol; but I’m sure Mandy’ll have Lap-jo lessons on here soon anyway and that’ll make it worse if you don’t have one when that happens 😋

Oh MY!!!! To anyone out there considering a Stone, – go for it! You will love it. I don’t put my name behind many people, but Steve has out of this world craftsmanship. ❤️
Review videos coming (probably next week). I will do a separate video describing why each inlay and custom piece is the way it is also.
