Any recommendations on brand of banjo strings. Just broke mine😪. Want something different, rather than what ever the music store has on hand.

Mandy’s go to strings are Ernie Ball Earthwoods 2061, I like them a bunch too. Here is her affiliat Amazon link: https://amzn.to/2RUrkz9
I’ve been experimenting lately too and am currently using a custom gauge set of D’Addario 10-24-17-13-10(or 11), i order singles from strings by mail and get a Phosphor Bronze 4th string.

I’m always on the lookout for a better set. I can tell you this – I very much dislike the Vega banjo strings. Definitely a no go for me. Very loose feeling and I had them on my banjo for only a few days I disliked them so much. Haha. Good luck Jeremiah. I do like those Ernie Ball Earthwood Frailing strings for sure.

Jason,
Tell me more about this phosphor bronze 4th string. I have never liked the sound of my 4th string when I would fret down on it. Anyway thank you Jason and Mandy for the info. Oh Jason, family and I will rolling down south in August to Tennessee. Wife and I went down last fall and loved it. Beautiful state.

Jeremiah – I just looked up the EB Earthwoods that I like, that 4th wound string is Copper/Zinc. Maybe that’s why I haven’t found another 4th string anywhere that I like except that one.

Phosphor Bronze is just a wrapping that sounds better to me than nickel or stainless steel.
I’m thinking about trying a wrapped 3rd string too.
Interesting Mandy, I always thought the EB’s 4th string was phosphor bronze, guess I was wrong.

Just a side comment on copper alloys, for what its worth, Copper/Zinc => Brass. Copper/Tin => Bronze.

I believe the strings I had on before were Vega, but the Ernie Ball strings are lights out! Huge difference, thank you for the recommendation!
