Keys and tunings?

So my brother is learning to play the guitar while I am the banjo. We were practicing together the other day and I wanted to play shady grove which is in c model but we couldn’t decide what key he should play it in? I searched online some and didn’t find much that I could understand atleastthank you!

C Modal? Mandy plays that in G Modal most of the time, gDGCD.
Myself I play it Double C, gCGCD or with a capo2, aDADE.

Regardless if your banjo is tuned to G modal he can probably get away with just playing in the key of G or retune his guitar:
