LEVEL – Beginner and UP. You should know your frets and have a basic understanding of how to play. If you can play 5 or more songs already – you are ready for this class.
In this workshop, you will learn what shape notes are (Sacred Harp, Solfège) and how to use them to play hymns on the dulcimer. You will get several pdf handouts. After we work on understanding the shapes (symbols) we will transpose a hymn using the easy system presented.
You should expect to play hymns with these shape notes, as this system was used for singing hymns for those who couldn’t read music. You can find hymnals today that use shape notes. You can also find some free online.
